Ironwood - The Ironwood Carnegie Library has kicked off its summer of fun, with their annual reading program. This year's theme, "Adventure begins at your library," celebrates adventure stories, and the library has a variety of events planned for kids of all ages.

The kickoff to the summer reading was held on Tuesday, with kids gathering at the library to meet Smokey the Bear, sign up for events and library cards, and register for the summer reading.

Below are some of the events that the library has planned for the upcoming summer, including dates and times. Some events have limited space, according to library director Lynne Wiercinski. For more detailed information, visit the library, or call 906-932-0203.

Critter Adventure Programs

The Critter Adventure Programs are programs where kids get to learn about animals of various kinds, often with an activity, or specialists that come to answer questions or tell stories about their work.

The first one is being held today, at 2 p.m. The "Birds of Prey" program brings Tommi the Red-Tailed Hawk along with his handler, Bart, from the Northwood Wildlife Center to visit the library.

June 20 - "Bees, Bees, Bees" at 2 p.m. at the library. Judy and Ted Simm bring their hive to the library.

June 27 - "Slithery Snakes" at 2 p.m. at the library. Presented by North Lakeland Discovery Center, kids get to learn about snakes, and possibly meet one too.

July 8 - "Ants in My ..... Library" at 5 p.m. at the library. The Ironwood Carnegie Library will be setting up its own ant farm and adding the ants, enjoying a story, and making glow in the dark crafts to take home.
