IRONWOOD, Mich. - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Antoinette Wallenius, age 95. She passed away on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2023.
Toni was born on Sept. 13, 1928, in Ironwood, the daughter of Samuel and Therese (Collontonio) Federico. She attended St. Ambrose Catholic School's grade school and then graduated in 1971 from the Ironwood Community Schools. On Jan. 12, 1946, she was married to Eugene Wallenius at the St. Ambrose Church rectory by the late Msgr. J.B. Moriarity.
Toni was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers. You could find her watching her favorite football team or engaging in her greatest joy, baking for her children and grandchildren. Toni and Gene were involved in volunteer activities at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. They also both worked many years at the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry. Toni served as a hostess for the Christmas open house at the parish rectory. She also volunteered as a greeter and was a member of the Women's Auxiliary at the Aspirus Ironwood Hospital.
She is survived by her son, Michael (Megan) of Mankato, Minnesota; daughters, Christine "Chrick" (Dave) Hagelin of Ironwood, and Connie Wallenius of Ironwood; grandchildren, Todd, Tim, Lee and Jake; great-grandchildren, Marley, Micah, Josh, Zac, Kenna, Ellis and Brynn; and her brother, John (June) of Hurley, Wisconsin. She is further survived by other relatives and friends.
Toni was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Eugene Wallenius.
Visitation for Toni will be held from 10 a.m. to the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Father Brian Gerber officiating at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church on Friday, June 21, 2024. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Ironwood.
