Snowmobiles set for Sunday Lake

Wakefield — Starting on Friday, and continuing through Sunday, the International Watercross Association will set snowmobiles racing across Sunday Lake in Wakefield.

Specially modified snowmobiles will be used for the competition, which will occur next to the north-side beach.

Approximately 100 participants are expected to compete at the event, which also will include live music, food and beverage vendors, prizes and more.

Things kick off on Friday with an amateur race starting at about 5 p.m. Amateur racers have until Friday at 9 a.m. to register. Also featured on Friday will be a meet-and-greet social with racers from 6 to 7 p.m. and music by Flashback from 7 to 10 p.m.

On Saturday and Sunday, the racing will start at 11 a.m. Mayor Dale White said races are predicted to last until about 4 p.m. each day.

Saturday also will include music by Liz Mathias and Erik Mahler from 7 to 10 p.m.

The event requires cash-only entrance at the gates. Cost will be $50 for adults for the weekend or $30 for a one-day pass. For teenagers 13-17, the cost will be $30 for the weekend or $20 for a one-day pass. Kids 12 and under may attend free.

The City of Wakefield is hosting the event, which is sponsored by the Wakefield Fireworks Committee.

The Wakefield Fireworks Committee also is hosting a food truck extravaganza with Weeniez on Wheels, Moos Dough Company, UP-N-Smoke, Shark Snack Shack and more. Also available will be burgers, brats and a beverage station.

No carry-ins will be allowed.

Rustic campsites might still be available at $50 per site for the weekend.
