WAKEFIELD, Mich. – Jean Sawaski, 92, a lifelong resident of Wakefield, passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Gogebic Medical Care Facility in Wakefield.
Jean was born on July 8, 1931, in Wakefield, the daughter of James and Louisa (Fenoglio) Noasconi. She attended Wakefield High School and graduated in 1949.
On July 5, 1952, Jean was united in marriage to David J. Sawaski in Wakefield.
She was a faithful member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Wakefield, a supporting member of the Immaculate Conception Women’s Guild and a member of the Michigan Education Association. At one time, she was on the Wakefield School Board, and was the treasurer to the Auxiliary to Wakefield Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9084.
In earlier years, Jean was a secretary at the city of Wakefield, and concluded her working career at the Wakefield High School.
Jean is survived by a son, Joel (Loretta), Indianapolis; a daughter, Dawn Sawaski, Indianapolis; a granddaughter, Christina; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David, on Sept. 5, 2002; and a brother, James Noasconi.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 20, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10:30 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 407 Ascherman St., in Wakefield, with the Rev. Dominic Agyapong, celebrant. Also, in attendance will be the Immaculate Conception Women’s Guild Honor Guard.
Private interment will take place at the Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield.
Jerald Rocco, owner and manager of Lakeside Memorial Chapel Inc., in Wakefield, is assisting the family with arrangements.
