IRONWOOD - Robert "Bob" Champion, 63, passed away on June 11, 2024, after an extended illness. He was loved by all who knew him and leaves behind a legacy of kindness and generosity.
Robert was born in Ironwood to the late Bill and Jean (Strand) Champion. After attending Luther L. Wright High School, Gogebic Community College, and Fox Valley Technical College, Robert went on to pursue his many passions in Wisconsin. Through the years, he held a variety of skilled positions.
Robert later settled in Green Bay, where he spent his spare time playing UNO with his niece and nephew, consistently expanding his collection of snowmobile memorabilia, and traveling to the U.P. to visit his sisters and family.
Robert dedicated his life to giving back to his community. He could be found volunteering at animal shelters, horse rescues, homeless shelters, assisting with local charity events, or simply lending a helping hand to those in need.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Jean Champion; and his sister, Bonnie Kukkonen. He is survived by his loving family, including his sister, Kathy (Pat) Steiger, and their children, Tim and Tina; sister, Janis (Ron) Steffen, and their children, Holley and Pierce; brother-in-law, Phil (Nancy) Kukkonen, and his children Kristi, Erik and Cami; best friend who was like a brother, Mike Morgan (Wendy); and a wide circle of friends, all of whom will miss his warmth, humor and unwavering support.
Though Robert may no longer be with us in person, his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those he held dear. A celebration of life honoring Robert will be held at a later date with his final resting place in Riverside Cemetery in Ironwood.
