Hurley — Members of the Iron County Board of Commissioners tabled action in relation to what Interim County Clerk Christan Brandt said is a new, national opioid settlement relating to the Kroger Company.
They agreed at the June 25 meeting that more information is needed before agreeing to a related resolution.
Iron County already has accepted past allocations of opioid settlements. Diane Schmidtke, financial manager in the county’s Human Services Department, said those funds are not in a separate checking account, but are managed from a discrete county fund.
Board members also:
—Approved an application for a 2025 911 grant for emergency medical dispatch, software and training.
—Approved rezoning from I-1 (Industrial) to C-1 (Commercial) land at 4595 N. U.S. 51, owned by Trueflight Manufacturing Company Inc. in Mercer.
—Approved rezoning from I-1 to C-1 land at 4553 N. U.S. 51, owned by Matthew Peter.
—Approved the hiring of a child support employee.
—Approved the 2023 annual report from the county’s Human Services Department.
—Heard Eric Peterson, the county’s forest administrator, provide a summary of the responsibilities inherent to the department of Iron County Forestry and Parks, as well as the financial impact it has on the county.
At the conclusion of Peterson’s report, Youngs said, “I think you manage the forests well, and I think you manage your department well.”
All votes were unanimous with all members present.
The board’s next regular meeting will be on July 30 at 6 p.m. in the board room of the Iron County Courthouse.
