MERCER, Wis. — Independence Day is quite the celebration in Mercer, and this year’s nice weather helped it to be even better.
Mercer held its annual Fourth of July Parade at 11 a.m., with crowds lining up hours in advance to secure a nice spot along the downtown parade route.
Parade highlights included the Mercer Area Sno-Goers groomers; fire trucks and ambulances from area units; and various floats from area organizations, businesses and clubs.
At 2 p.m. people gathered at Carow Park for food, kids’ games and drinks until the fireworks held at dusk.
“It went fantastic this year,” said Melissa Copp, executive director of the Mercer Chamber of Commerce. “We had good weather, even if at times we questioned if it would be.”
Copp said that the chamber, which sponsored the celebration, was pleased with the turnout for all of events, especially for the parade.
“We had fantastic participation,” she said.
Copp said the entire day went really well, noting the attendance at this year’s fireworks as an example.
“The amount of people that turned out for that was truly astonishing,” she said. “I think it was truly the largest crowd since i’ve been here.”
Mercer Chamber of Commerce will announce winners of its 50/50 and parade floats on Friday.
