Ironwood — After a closed session at the end of its Monday evening meeting, the Ironwood City Commission unanimously approved a memo of understanding with the city’s public safety officer union.

The MOU acknowledges the following wage increases, per hour, effective Aug. 1, for public service officers:

New officers with zero to four years of experience will rise from $24.51 to $27.25, while officers with five to nine years of experience will rise from $25.74 to $27.25. Officers with 10 or more years of experience will rise from $27.71 to $29.54.

Sergeants will rise from $32.10 to $33.56, and lieutenants will rise from $33.02 to $35.01.

The memo states, “This MOU shall be in effect only for the term of the labor agreement that expires July 31, 2025 and not thereafter, unless specifically renewed in writing by both parties.”

It also adds, “All other provisions of the collective bargaining agreement apply.”

Ironwood city clerk Jennifer Ahonen reported on Tuesday morning that city manager Paul Anderson executed the MOU on Monday evening after the commission’s approval. She added that Andrew DiGiorgio, director of the Ironwood Public Safety Department, was

expected to obtain the required signature from the union.

The local union is affiliated with the Police Officers Association of Michigan.
