Marenisco TOWNSHIP - The Fourth of July began on a proper note in Marenisco Township with a delicious pancake breakfast in the town hall.
Courtesy of the Marenisco Volunteer Fire Department, it featured original and chocolate chip pancakes, spicy sausage patties, bacon, orange juice, milk and coffee.
Overall, the small community next to the Presque Isle River managed a big roster of activities, starting on June 29 and continuing through July 6.
The celebration began with a Backroads Treasure Hunt that could be taken by ATV or automobile. Gold coins were collected from a treasure chest and then turned in for prizes.
The annual Golf Tournament got underway on July 3 at the Gateway Golf Club in Land O'Lakes.
The morning of July 4 featured a colorful parade along the main street. It included a lot of candy thrown from floats and cars - happily received by children of all ages.
Family and friends sat or stood together under the sun and in the shade, sharing laughs and just plain having fun.
After the parade, a picnic included brats, ice cream and a dunk tank, along with kids' games and races.
There was a volleyball contest and a cornhole toss, as well as a mini log contest on the river, followed by a frozen T-shirt challenge and a turkey feed.
Topping off holiday festivities on July 6 was the 2nd annual Marenisco Music Festival, which gave people a chance to relax, listen to music, picnic and play from noon into the evening.
The Marenisco July 4 Committee organized most holiday events, and Eric Mahler set up the music festival.
