Ironwood — Dan Martinson, the new superintendent of Ironwood Area Schools, took the helm at his first Board of Education meeting on Monday evening.
The meeting was kept short and sweet, with the board voting to approve the February 2024 updates to the Neola policies, including updates regarding evaluation of the superintendent, prohibition of referral or assistance, reproductive health and family planning, sex education, professional staff evaluation, purchasing, new school construction and renovation, procurement of federal grands/funds, prevailing wages, payroll deductions, animals on district property, and religious/patriotic ceremonies and observances.
The board also voted to approve the milk and bread bids for the upcoming school year. The milk bid was awarded to Jilbert Dairy Inc. in Marquette, and the bread bid has been awarded to Pan-O-Gold Baking Company in Escanaba.
In other news, the board:
—Approved the personnel report as presented.
—Approved the minutes from the June 24, June 25, and July 1 meetings.
—Approved the finance meeting minutes.
—Approved the activity fund report.
—Approved the bills as presented.
There was no update from the K-12 principal, special education supervisor, athletic director or assistant principal.
