Dale E. Hedman

MONTREAL, Wis. – Dale Edward Hedman, 69, a longtime resident of Montreal, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, with his family at his side.

Dale was born on Sept. 21, 1954, in Ironwood, Michigan, a son of Oiva E. and Frances M. (Moncher) Hedman. He graduated from J.E. Murphy High School in Hurley. Dale continued his education at Gogebic Community College and earned an Associate Degree.

Dale was employed at White Pine Copper Mine until its closure and concluded his working career as a mine safety inspector at MSHA.

Dale proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and for many years was in the Army Reserves. He was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant.

Dale was a supporting member of the Hurley American Legion Post 58, and a dedicated member of the Hurley Lions Club.

Dale looked forward to watching his grandson, Dominic, play in many baseball games. His passion was to socialize with his family and friends.

Survivors include two daughters, Jaclyn and Kayla; his former wife, Joan Koski; two cherished grandchildren, Dominic and Dylan; two brothers, Darryl (Kathy) and Peter (Dori); a niece, Sara (Jon); a nephew, Jacob (Alina); and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Lilly Alana Sivula; and a sister, Marian.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 27, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 111 S. Curry St., in Ironwood, with the Rev. Doug Norquist officiating.

Following the service, full military rites will be accorded by the combined Hurley American Legion Post 58, Iron County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1580, and Vietnam Veterans of America, Gogebic-Iron Range Chapter 529 Honor Guard, assisted by the U.P. Funeral Honors Team.

Luncheon will be served at the church fellowship hall immediately following the military honors.

A committal service and interment will take place at the Greenwood Cemetery in Upson.
