Thomas Joseph LaVerdure

IRONWOOD - Thomas Joseph LaVerdure, 78, a lifelong resident of Hurley, Wisconsin, passed away with his family by his side on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at the Aspirus Ironwood Hospital.

Tom was born at home on March 21, 1946, to Phillip J. and Catherine (Krpan) LaVerdure. He graduated from the class of 1964 Hurley High School. He was united in marriage with Nancy Jackson on Sept. 11, 1965, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley. Tom began his career in construction and retired as the Vice President of Operations for Wayne Nasi Construction. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing on softball leagues. Tom shared a love and passion for beagling with his wife Nancy, who had many beagles in their years together. He was also an avid deer hunter and Packers fan. 

Tom is survived by his wife, Nancy; three children, Tammy (Russell) Schemenauer of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Sandra (Dale) Gottschalk of Birchwood, Wisconsin, and Tom LaVerdure of Minneapolis, Minnesota; his sister, Jeanette Maki of Gwinn; five grandchildren, Katie Schemenauer, Ariel (Brandon) Knutson, Danielle (Justin) Rhenlund, Bryant (Emma) Gottschalk and Tyler Gottschalk; and his five very loved and special great-grandchildren.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Margurite Baumgartner. 

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 3, from 10 a.m. to the time of the Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley with Fr. Raj Sunkura officiating.  A luncheon will follow.
