Bessemer — The Board of Education for Bessemer Area Schools has approved the district’s budget for the 2024-25 fiscal school year.
Following is a summary of some of the numbers that were approved as presented in the board’s June meeting:
The Bessemer Area Schools have projected a $6,376,353 budget with expenses of $5,176,149. This included a budget of $40,000 for school computer upgrades that are planned for the upcoming year.
Also approved at the meeting were final numbers for the 2023-24 school budget.
The total 2023-2024 budgeted revenue was $6,458,975, and expenses took up $4,769,719.
The final local revenue for the 2023-2024 school year was $903,672; the final state revenue was $3,825,605; the final federal revenue was $5,296,390.
Elementary instruction expenses were $1,263,131; high school instruction expenses totaled $904,414; operations and maintenance expenses totaled $612,712; transportation for pupils totaled $210,422; and technology expenses totaled $157,792.
The transportation budget included a $44,000 expense for the electric bus charger and infrastructure for said bus. The bus itself incurred a $65,158 charge for the purchase of the vehicle.
The school is expecting to see the electric bus up and running in the 2024-2025 school year for local transportation such as bus routes. An additional $74,392 is budgeted for the upcoming school year to go toward these costs as well.
