Gogebic County — In the race for seven seats on the Gogebic County Commission, the closest call among unofficial results in Tuesday’s primary election was for District 1, wherein incumbent Dan Siirila beat Bob Michaels, 143-141. They are both Republicans.
In District 6, which covers Wakefield and Wakefield Township, Republican Michael Yon earned 200 votes versus Democratic incumbent Bob Orlich with 124.
In District 3, incumbent Democratic incumbent James Byrns earned 173 votes versus Republican Dan Wood’s 111.
Other races were uncontested.
In District 2, where Thomas Laabs opted not to run for re-election, Republican Joseph J. Cayer got 131 votes.
In District 5, where Joseph Bonovetz opted not to run again, Democrat Peter Matonich got 148 votes.
In District 4, incumbent and board chair and Democrat James Lorenson got 125 votes.
In District 7, which covers Watersmeet and Marenisco townships, Democratic incumbent George R. Peterson III got 124 votes.
Unresolved write-ins are still to be addressed in some races but will not effect results.
