Ironwood — The Gogebic-Iron County Airport Board voted on Monday to accept a bid from Midland Services Inc. of Ironwood for propane at a rate of $1.31 per gallon.

The only other bidder was Krist Oil, which operates throughout the region.

The board also approved a $4,000 purchase of an upgraded scissor lift from Forslund Building Supply in Ironwood.

Airport Manager Jeremy Busch informed the board that the lift runs on propane and has undergone inspections to guarantee safety.

Included in the board’s motion was a commitment to seek training for staff in relation to safe usage of the scissor lift, as it would be required for staff to use it on a non-rental basis as has been the case historically.

Busch informed the board that the airport has been running well, and that — as is typical at this time of year — staff is undergoing maintenance on much of their equipment.

The airport also has undergone water testing recently, and results showed that two of the water fountains have tested positive for Legionella.

“The company that performed the testing will sell us a kit to rectify the issue,” said Busch, who provided the report.

The kit in question contains cleaning solutions to treat the presence of Legionella.

After some discussion, the board voted instead to replace the two water fountains wherein the problem exists.
