Wakefield — At a regular meeting on Monday evening, the Wakefield City Council approved a resolution that acknowledges a maintenance agreement with the Michigan Department of Transportation.
No other official action occurred at the meeting, according to city manager Robert Brown Jr.
In his agenda report to the council, Brown noted of the MDOT agreement, “This document authorizes the city to carry out construction, improvement and maintenance activities on state trunkline highways and allows for reimbursement for these activities.”
He added, “The contract is crucial for the city to recover the costs associated with working on the state’s trunkline.”
The new contract will be effective from Oct. 1 through Sept. 30 of 2029.
According to a Tuesday email from Brown, council members also:
— Received an update from Chris Holmes, the designated engineer for the city’s Phase 1 water project.
— Learned that the Department of Public Works is taking steps to deter geese from the Sunday lake area.
— Learned that main street paving is expected to wrap up by next week.
The council’s next regular meeting will be on Aug. 26 at 5:30 p.m. in the council chamber of the municipal building.
