HORTONVILLE, Wis. - James "Jungle" B. Slavin, age 79, of Hortonville, formerly of Hurley, passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones.
Jim was born in Bessemer, Michigan, on June 9, 1945, to the late John and Eleanore (Cobb) Slavin. He married Lori Pertile in 1985 in Ironwood, Michigan, on the shores of Lake Superior. Jim taught for many years, finishing his career teaching at Ojibway Correctional Facility. He also worked with numerous construction companies during his summers. Jim's passions included fishing on Lake Superior; baseball; and going to Packer, Brewer and Bucks games. His greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Jim is survived by his wife; children, Bryan (Kelly), Sarah (Bryan) and Jennifer (Brad); grandchildren, Hunter, Cambelle, Claire, Sophie, Jonathan and Olivia; and siblings, John (Donna) and Janice. He is further survived by cousins and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; son, Daniel; sister, Jayne; and brother-in-law, Russ.
Jim's funeral service will take place at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley, on Friday, Aug. 16, at 11 a.m. Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
