Catherine Marie 'Katie' Pertile

BESSEMER, Mich. - Catherine Marie "Katie" Pertile, 95, of Bessemer, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2024.

Katie was born on Aug. 31, 1929, to Alice and Albino Zanella of Cary location. She attended Hurley High School and was married to Joseph V. Pertile on Sept. 4, 1948. She worked for many years serving Friday night fish fry for her dear friends, Jessie and Cha Eppolite, at their Yale location tavern.

Katie was active in the St. Sebastian Ladies Guild and employed in their hot lunch program from 1971-1999. She had a love for music and dancing. After retirement she found joy in traveling. From weekends spent at the lake in Birchwood, Wisconsin, to visiting places as far away as San Juan, Puerto Rico or New York City, she was always up for an adventure.

Katie's lifelong aim was to please her family in every way she could, and her love was unconditional. She valued true friendship. Precious moments were spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Katie is survived by her three children, Tina Garreau, Daniel (Debbie) Pertile and Rick (Paul) Pertile; two grandchildren, Brandon (Nicole) Pertile and Rachel (Ben) Goldstein; and four great-grandchildren, Peyton and Maleah Pertile, and Rocco and Vinny Goldstein. Also held dear to her was her cousin, Priscilla Stephani, and good friends, Christine Forslund and DeeDee Laabs.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph, on Feb. 24, 2001; a son, David Joseph Pertile; her son-in-law, Dennis "Denny" Garreau; and her lifelong friend, Jessie Eppolite.

A special thank you to the entire staff at Westgate Nursing, Rehabilitation and Assisted Living Community for their professional and compassionate care during her last years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Sept. 16, at 10 a.m., preceded by visitation at 9 a.m., at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 210 E. Iron St., in Bessemer, with the Rev. Dominic Agyapong, celebrant.
