Hurley - The Hurley K-12 School hosted Governor Tony Evers on Monday as part of his back-to-school tour.

The visit included a tour of the school and visits to several classrooms as the administration introduced him to students.

School officials also toured him through several key areas of the building, including the science labs and Northwoods Manufacturing shops.

As he toured classrooms, Evers answered students' questions.

One student asked about what he did as a governor and what his favorite part is.

"As a governor, I do the best job I can when I see a lot of people, talk to people, and see what their needs are," he said, adding regarding his favorite aspect, "Getting out of Madison to visit schools and businesses."

Evers spoke to students about how he had visited Hurley many times before becoming governor and how he always enjoyed being here.

Originally, Evers was scheduled to visit the school on Friday, but due to concerns about a social media post, the visit was rescheduled.

Following the tour, Evers commented on the quality of Hurley's offerings, saying that he was pleased with the number of opportunities that were being offered to students at the school.

"People have always taken great pride in this school," he said.

At the board meeting Monday evening, District Administrator Kevin Genisot spoke about the experience.

"It was nice to have the governor here," said Genisot. "It was the only time I know he has visited as the governor during my time. Before, he did visit here as a different role, but not as governor. So to have a school district that far away from Madison and have the lieutenant governor visit at one time and the governor visit at another time - I think that is really nice."

Genisot spoke highly of the visit and how well he felt the school held up.

"I think they both left really impressed with everything that we do for a small, northern rural school district so far away from Madison. It was a real nice chance, and hopefully they spread word and we get some more politicians out this way. I think they need to see what's happening here."

Board President Leslie Kolesar also spoke fondly of the experience, "We had an awesome day here with the governor," she said. "Everything went really, really well."
