Ironwood — September was a busy purchasing month for the Ironwood Area Schools.

During its regular monthly meeting on Monday, the Ironwood Area School Board approved the purchase of several items, programs and projects.

Included were the purchase of the Fundations Reading Curriculum as presented, a Microsoft 365 A5 subscription for $5,321, a 28-inch floor scrubber for $15,349, and insulation for the bus garage for $7,450.

The board also heard an update from Superintendent Daniel Martinson.

“Time sure flies,” said Martinson. “I think it has been a good start to the year. There were wrinkles, like there always are, but I think that we balanced it out with hard work.”

The superintendent said that he was pleased with the efforts of the school and its employees. He praised staff for the work they have put into getting the school back into session.

“It’s a little hectic, but I think that everybody is finding where we are at and where we need to go,” said Martinson.

The board discussed the need for snow plowing for the 2024-2025 winter. Previously, the school had contracted with Jake’s Excavating and Landscaping of Ironwood, paying per season, with a three-year contract ending with the close of the 2023-24 school year.

After a brief discussion, the board voted to allow Martinson to call for bids for snow plowing services for the 2024-2027 school years.

In other news, the board:

— Approved the bills and activity fund bills as presented.

— Approved the activity report for the month of August as presented.

— Approved the attendance, enrollment, personnel and strategic planning reports as presented.

— Heard updates from the assistant principal and athletic director; the special education supervisor; and the food service director.
