MARENISCO, Mich. - August H. Tabeling, 84, passed away on Sept. 28, 2024, surrounded by family after a beautiful day on the lake.
August was born Dec. 3, 1939, as the first and only son to Carl and Hedwig Tabeling.
As a child, Augie enjoyed fishing with his dad and summer vacations on the lake with his family. When he was 16, he met the love of his life, Sandra Blau, through a mutual friend at a high school dance. Together, they enjoyed going on boat rides and meeting up with friends at the local drive-in movie theater.
Throughout his teenage and early adult years, Augie perfected the art of mechanics while owning his own Citgo service station. His love for mechanics and boats led to the restoration of his prized Chris-Craft boat. He also enlisted in the Coast Guard reserves and served for four years.
After five years of dating, he and Sandra were united in marriage on Sept. 9, 1961.
In April of 1963, they welcomed home their first daughter, Aileen, followed by their son, Jeffrey, in September of 1964 and completed their family with their second daughter, Pamela, in September of 1966. As their children were growing, they spent summers in Green Lake, Wisconsin, boating and enjoying the outdoors. Augie was a supportive and proud parent of all of his children.
For over 30 years, Augie enjoyed long-haul trucking in an 18-wheeler for Allis Chalmers. In anticipation of retirement, Augie and Sandy built their dream home on Lake Gogebic in Marenisco. They officially retired in December of 2004 and moved to Lake Gogebic full time. They have been blessed to have 20 years of retirement and recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary together.
Augie is survived by his loving wife, Sandra (Blau); son, Jeffrey (Michelle) Tabeling; daughter, Pamela (Steve) Hall; son-in-law, Patrick Colleran; and sister-in-law, Charlene Wooten. He was blessed with seven grandchildren, Ken (Amanda) Hall, Kyle (Renee) Hall, Christopher (Theresa) Tabeling, Caitlin (Matt) Mullaly, Michael (Rachel) Tabeling, Bridget Colleran and Kelly (Jon) Seier; as well as nine great-grandchildren, Logan, Tanner, Peyton, Harper, Henry, Maverick, Ryan, Cooper and Teegan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; by daughter, Aileen Colleran; in-laws, Mathias and Kathryn Blau; sister, Mary Ford; brother-in-law, Jack Ford; and nephew, Patrick Ford.
