Gogebic County — Gogebic County citizens may vote in Tuesday’s general election from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at their designated precincts.
Early and absentee voting options also are available with details available from each voter’s county or city clerk.
The full ballot for each precinct is available on the Gogebic County website (choose “election results” and then “local ballot information,” and address the drop-down choices).
In the information provided below, only contested races are noted, and names are listed in the order they appear on the ballots.
Voters will have the option to vote for the president and vice president with Kamala Harris/Tim Walz as democrats (hereon referred to as “D”) and Donald Trump/J.D. Vance as republicans (hereon referred to as “R”). Several other lesser-known party candidates also are listed.
Major U.S. Senate candidates include Elissa Slotkin (D) and Mike Rogers (R). Major U.S. House District 1 candidates are Callie Barr (D) and incumbent Jack Bergman (R-Watersmeet).
In the 110th District of the state House of Representatives, Ironwood mayor Kim Corcoran (D) will run against incumbent Greg Markkanen (R-Hancock).
Several other Michigan races include the state Board of Education, regents of the University of Michigan, trustees of Michigan State University, governor of Wayne State University and court races.
Among contested races in Gogebic County is the sheriff’s race with Gabe Justinak (D) and Jorge Cruz (R).
One county proposal is as follows: Shall separate tax limitations be renewed or continued for a period of four years (2025-2028 inclusive) for the county of Gogebic and the townships and the intermediate school district within the county, the aggregate of which shall not exceed nine mills for the county, the intermediate school district and a township as follows: Gogebic County, 6.68 mills; GOISD, 0.32 mills; Bessemer Township, 1.63 mills; Erwin Township, 1 mill; Marenisco Township, 2 mills; Wakefield Township, 1.63 mills; Watersmeet Township, 1.77 mills; and Ironwood Township, chartered.
Bessemer City
The city of Bessemer has no contested races.
Bessemer Township
Bessemer Township voters will choose one of the following candidates for township supervisor: Crystal Suzik (R) or Jeffery Randall (no party affiliation).
They also will choose two of the following three candidates for township trustee: Susan Roberts (D), Beverly Ikola (D) or Steven Selin (R).
Wakefield City/Township
Voters in Wakefield Township and city will choose for county commissioner District 6 either incumbent Bob Orlich (D) or Michael Yon (R).
Marenisco Township
Marenisco Township voters will have one contested race. Green Party candidate Rob Dorgan had been uncontested at the time of the Aug. 6 primary, but Robert Delich since has registered as a write-in candidate.
Ironwood City
Precinct 1
Ironwood’s Precinct 1 voters have no contested races.
Ironwood City
Precinct 2
Ironwood’s Precinct 2 voters will choose one of the following for county commission District 3: incumbent Jim Byrns (D) or Dan Wood (R).
Ironwood Township
Ironwood Township voters will choose one of the following candidates for county commission District 1: incumbent Dan Siirila (R) or Darrin Kimbler with no party affiliation.
For treasurer, they will choose either incumbent Maria Graser (D) or Brett Imwalle (R).
Voters will choose four of the following candidates for township trustee: Bernard Brunello (D), Kevin Lyons (D), Brenda Alli-Angus (R), Kathy Jo Koval (R), Bev Michaels (R) or James J.Simmons Jr. (R).
Erwin Township
Erwin Township has no contested races.
Wakefield City/Township
and Bessemer/
Marenisco Township
Wakefield Township and city, as well as Marenisco Township, also will be asked whether or not to support a school district sinking fund millage proposal with a levy not to exceed 1 mill ($1 for each $1,000 of taxable valuation) for a period of 10 years, 2025 to 2034, to create (funds) for construction or repair of school buildings, for security improvements, and a list of other potential school needs.
Watersmeet Township
Watersmeet Township voters will choose for supervisor either incumbent Mike Rogers (D) or Yvonne Clark (R).
For clerk, they will choose either incumbent Julie Mathiesen (D) or Kirsten Boehm (R).
They will choose two trustees from the following four: John T. Oliver III (R), Simon Zelinski (R), or MaryLynn McGeshick or Bill Neumann, neither of which have a party affiliation.
Voters will choose four of the following five candidates for the Watersmeet Township School Board: Toni Edwards-Williams, Michelle Hazen, Tara Pallin, Lisa Rogers or Priscilla Smith.
