Serving Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon Counties
IRONWOOD, Mich. – Karin Elisabeth Carlson, 71, of Ironwood, passed away from metastatic bladder cancer on Sunday, Oct 27, 2024. She died peacefully at home with her sister, Kris, by her side.
Karin was born on May 28, 1953, to Harold and Elsa (Renstrom) Carlson. She attended Sleight and Central Schools and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1971. She attended Gogebic Community College, graduating in 1973 with an Associate of Applied Business. She was the bookkeeper at the Wakefield Township Schools for 31 years, retiring in 2004. A lifelong faithful member of Salem Lutheran Church in Ironwood, she was active with the quilters, altar guild and sang in the choir, and has been the Salem treasurer for the past 17 years. She was a voracious reader all of her life and firmly believed that there is no such thing as too many books.
She is survived by her sister, Kristine; her cousin, Donald (Jackie) Carlson, of Ashland; and other cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Anna Marie, in infancy.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Nov. 15, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 9:30 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Ironwood with Pastor Nicole Hanson-Lynn officiating. Following a committal service at Riverside Cemetery, a luncheon will be served in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, and to honor Karin’s lifelong love of reading, memorials are preferred to the Ironwood Carnegie Library.
“Thy dead shall live, their bodies shall rise. O dwellers in the dust, awake and sing for joy! For thy dew is a dew of light, and on the land of the shades thou will let it fall.” — Isaiah 26:19
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Jerald Rocco, owner and manager of Lakeside Memorial Chapel, Inc., in Wakefield.
