Marenisco TOWNSHIP — Bob Delich won the race for Marenisco Township supervisor in the Nov. 5 general election.

The Globe stated otherwise in a Nov. 7 election report.

Although Rob Dorgan, a Green Party candidate, was unopposed as of the Aug. 6 primary, Delich later entered as a qualified write-in candidate.

Delich beat Dorgan by a vote of 133-121 in the general election race. According to Gogebic County Clerk Ramona Collins, an additional seven write-in votes were left unresolved after all voting counts were canvassed.

The reporting error occurred because total write-in votes for Delich were posted on a separate page from “unresolved” write-in votes. Moreover, unresolved votes were not yet certified as of press time for the Nov. 7 newspaper. At that time, Delich’s first total was lower than that received by Dorgan. When Delich’s two totals were combined and verified via later canvassing, they came to 137, which made him the victor.

“I’ve lived in Wakefield most of my life, and I worked in Marenisco since 1972,” said Delich in a Friday phone call with The Globe. “I know everybody in Marenisco.”

Delich will begin his four-year term when the Marenisco Board of Trustees next gathers on Nov. 20. Current supervisor Bruce Mahler will start the meeting at 6 p.m., and Delich then will assume the chairmanship after being sworn in as supervisor.
