IRONWOOD, Mich. - Joseph K. Ziemann, 89, of Bessemer and previously of Green Bay, Wisconsin, passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2024, at the Aspirus Ironwood Hospital in Ironwood.
Joe was born on Jan. 14, 1935, in Marinette, Wisconsin, to Joseph and Viola (Sunstrom) Ziemann. He graduated from Marinette High School and went on to receive his bachelor's degree at Lawrence College in Appleton, Wisconsin. Joe was a proud U.S. Army veteran. He was employed by Factory Insurance Associates, Employers Insurance of Wausau, Wisconsin, Royal Insurance Company and CNA Insurance Company.
Joe was united in marriage with Shirley Carter and together they had two children, Robert and John. He was then united in marriage with Judith Eberlein in 1975 and her two children, Todd and Karen. Together they lived in Green Bay until Joe's retirement when they moved to Bessemer in 1997 to the vacation home the whole family started building in 1979.
Joe loved the outdoors, skiing, boating in the Apostle Islands, fly fishing and golf, he even made his own regulation bocce ball court. He also enjoyed reading nonfiction and keeping up with Republican politics. Joe was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and he was a season ticket holder, he also loved to watch all levels of hockey games.
Joe is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Judy; sons, John (Nuttika) Ziemann and Robert (special friend Janna) Ziemann; step-son, Todd (Lisa) Axtell; step-daughter, Karen (special friend Jeff) Chriske; sister-in-law, Barbara Ziemann; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, John; and his father and mother-in-law, Merton and Gladys Eberlein.
A celebration of Joe's life will take place at a later date.
