Michael William Pietila

BRUCE CROSSING, Mich. - Michael William Pietila, 64, of Bruce Crossing, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2024.

Mike was born in Phelps, Wisconsin, on Dec. 10, 1959, to Gerald W. "Bill" and Barbara (Hines) Pietila and was the oldest of five sons. He attended Ewen-Trout Creek School as part of the 1978 graduating class. Mike went on to have a successful career in the propane industry, where he was known for his quality of work, kindness and determination to help others.

He was an avid outdoorsman! Mike loved spending time at "the lake," Lake Bond, along with fishing with his son and camping with family. He always looked forward to hunting season and deer camp. Mike enjoyed "bird" hunting and was quite the trapper in his earlier years. When Mike wasn't outdoors, he enjoyed cheering on his beloved Detroit sports teams, especially the Lions.

More than anything, Mike cherished time with family and friends, particularly his grandchildren. Nothing made him happier than being with them and seeing them grow up. He was a very proud father and grandfather.

Mike is preceded in death by his father, Gerald. He is survived by his mother, Barb; son, David (Kayla); three grandchildren, Kaydence, Alli and Dorothy; four brothers, Tom (Sherri), Larry, Joe (Brenda) and Steve (Tammy); former spouse and lifelong friend, Karen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at Cane Funeral Home at 13812 U.S. 45 Bruce Crossing, MI 49912 on Friday, Dec. 6. Visitation will be at noon with a service to follow at 1 p.m. EST.

Inurnment will take place at a later date at Maple Grove Cemetery in Bruce Crossing.
