Ironwood — This weekend, a variety of celebrations will take place as part of Ironwood’s Jack Frost Festival.

In relation to the city’s First Friday event, several organizations will offer a number of festive activities.

Downtown Ironwood Development Authority will offer “Frost Friday,” featuring a vendor crawl throughout downtown Ironwood. More than 25 arts and crafts vendors will have booths in various local businesses, displaying and selling their wares.

Additionally, the Ironwood St. Vincent de Paul Society thrift store will celebrate Customer Appreciation Day, offering coffee and treats to visitors from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Many activities for young attendants also will be available throughout the weekend.

Ironwood Carnegie Library will offer “Make and Take” crafts sessions for children on Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.

A story walk held by the library also will begin on Friday, with pages of “The Twelve Days of Christmas” children’s book on display in the windows of downtown businesses. Maps for the story walk will be available at the Ironwood Chamber of Commerce office and at the library and on its Facebook page.

The movie “Polar Express” will be shown on Friday at 7 p.m. in the Historic Ironwood Theatre.

On Saturday, Santa and Mrs. Claus — along with Jack Frost — will pay a visit to Incredible Bank from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Several Christmas concerts are scheduled for this weekend. The Chamber Singers will present their 34th annual Christmas concert on Friday at 7 p.m. and on Sunday at 4 p.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood.

The Gogebic Range Band Christmas concert will take place at the Historic Ironwood Theatre on Saturday evening at 7 p.m.

Additionally, the Luther L. Wright High School band will present its Christmas concert on Sunday at 2 p.m., also at HIT.

The main event on Saturday will be the Jack Frost Festival of Lights Parade at 6 p.m. in downtown Ironwood. The parade will feature many festively decorated floats and vehicles featuring local performers, organizations, well-known Christmas characters and more.

Leading up to the parade, the $10,000 Jack Frost raffle will be drawn in downtown Ironwood at 2 p.m.

The Ironwood Carnegie Library will offer a craft swap open from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. for those who donate items, and from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. for everyone. The library also will have an open house from 5 to 6 p.m. with cookies and hot cider. A Santa Dash also will start at the library at 5:45 p.m. and and then will head down Aurora street, the main street of Ironwood’s downtown area.

The weekend’s event lineup, as well as extended Jack Frost Festival celebrations running from Nov. 21 to Feb. 1, are being coordinated by the Jack Frost Committee of the Ironwood Chamber of Commerce.
