WAKEFIELD, Mich. – Donald Ray "Don" Walstrom, 89, of Wakefield, passed away Sunday, Dec. 1, 2024, at his home, after a brief illness.
Don was born on May 25, 1935, in Bessemer Township, the son of Raymond G. and Gertrude E. (Scott) Walstrom. He attended Wakefield High School and graduated in 1953. Don continued his education and graduated from Michigan Technological University in Houghton with a degree in mining and geological engineering.
Don then served his country in the U.S. Army for two years, stationed in Korea.
Following an honorable discharge, Don moved to Gurnee, Illinois. He was employed as a civil engineer by the Illinois Department of Transportation for 35 years.
After a successful career, Don returned to Wakefield, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing and dancing.
Don is survived by a daughter, Donna; a son, Kevin; a grandson, Lawson; and his companion, Carol Ponshock.
He was predeceased by his wife, Sandi, in 2007.
In accordance with Don's wishes, cremation will take place.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 28, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at the United Methodist Church, 706 Putnam St., in Wakefield, with the Rev. Rick Schwake officiating.
Following the service, there will be a flag presentation.
Luncheon will follow at the church fellowship hall.
A committal service and inurnment will take place in the spring at the Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield.
