William A. "Willie" Wiemerslage

DULUTH, Minn. - William "Willie" A. Wiemerslage, 87, of Hurley, Wisconsin, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2024, at Aspirus St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth.

Willie was born on April 4, 1937, in Chicago, to the late William F. Wiemerslage and Josephine Kubler Wiemerslage.

He enlisted in the Navy and served at the Great Lakes Navy Base from 1956 to 1962. Willie enlisted to see the world. Instead, he went home every weekend for mom's cooking. He was employed at T-Bird Ready Mix in Mercer in 1974, which later became Northern Lakes Concrete. He managed the Hurley location for a few years and then became a full-time caretaker to his wife, Maureen, in 2001.

Willie enjoyed an early morning café visit with friends and a coffee. He was one of the few Chicago Bears fans, so he always had plenty of people to bet on the game. Betting was tough for the Bears since the 80's.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with all his kids and grandkids. Over the years, he was a Little League coach (a crucial member that created Ricelli Baseball Field), an Oma Lions Club Member who participated in Oma Lions Days, an Oma Town Board member and volunteer fireman, a delivery man for Meals on Wheels, and a part of the early 1960's NASCAR circuit. If there was a race on TV, he knew it and you watched it with him - no choice. If anyone needed a ride or help, you could pretty much count on Willie to lend a hand.

Willie is survived by his children, Thomas (Rhonda), Rose, Wendy (Todd), Shawn (Karin), Patti, Billy and Tiffany.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maureen "Mo"; and sisters, Agnes and June.

A special thanks to the great neighbors, such as Scotty; and a close family friend that was always there, right to the end, Bonnie.

A Celebration of Willie's life will be announced in the spring.

Friends may leave condolences and tributes to Willie's family online at mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com

The family has chosen McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, Ironwood, Michigan, to honor Willie's legacy of life.
