BESSEMER — The Bessemer City Hall has undergone a mini remodel in recent days, with city manager Mandy Lake reporting that painting is now complete. The utility payment desk also has been moved.
City staff had requested the project as a means, not only to freshen the space, but especially to make the work flow more efficient.
In a Tuesday email, Lake also reported other action at a Monday evening meeting of the Bessemer City Council.
She said a budget workshop has been scheduled for Feb. 19 from 6 to 7:30 pm. In anticipation of that, council members also received a draft of the city's capital improvement plan.
According to Lake, council members also:
— Approved switching to Michigan's Municipal Employees' Retirement System for life insurance policies for all full-time employees and city retirees. "This will not affect coverage but will cut our quarterly payment in half," said Lake.
— Approved online training for the city manager, including a Citizen Planner Program, as well as programs of the Zoning Board of Appeals. Lake also was approved to attend an online Pro-Housing webinar series with the Michigan Association for Planning.
— Approved a resolution to support the creation of a committed fund to facilitate equipment repair and replacement. — Approved a resolution in relation to tax over/under payments.
— Approved a draw of $288,686.74 from the city's Drinking Water State Revolving Fund.
— After adding the item to the agenda, approved a Category B Grant Bid Solicitation that will be advertised on Feb. 6.
